Monasterevin, a culture capital, with
delegates from 23 countries
James Healy, The Leinster Leader , July 2000
Monasterevin must seem a quiet place after the departure of the crowds who filled the town all last week for the Hopkins 2000 international Summer School.
For seven days the town became the capital of the cultural world as delegates from 23 countries gathered to celebrate the genius of poet Gerard Manley Hopkins.
Art exhibitions, readings, social nights, and music provided a rich mix of rewarding experiences for all those taking part. The ever challenging poetry workshop allowed visiting poets to dissect each other's work in an atmosphere of positive interaction.
