Are you a young person who is passionate about Gerard Manley Hopkins, his poetry his artistic vision and creativity? If so, check out these Scholarships?

Each year, since 1987, The Gerard Manley Hopkins International Literary Festival, described as 'Europe's most exciting cultural forum' (Sunday Tribune) and as 'the best literary festival in Ireland' (Editor, The Oxford Companion to Irish Studies) has taken place in Monasterevin, Ireland.

Scholars and enthusiasts for all over the world assemble during the last week of July to celebrate the Poet and his Work.

Now, The Gerard Manley Hopkins Society, thanks to our generous Sponsors and participants, offers a limited number of Scholarships for Students who would like to participate.

Details of the Hopkins Scholarship

There are 2 possibilities:

1. The Society offer 8 full Scholarships. These Scholarships cover FULL REGISTRATION; attendance at all Lectures, Workshops; Seminars; Book Launches and Receptions. They also cover the cost of Buses and Field-trips but do NOT include Travel, Meals or accommodation.

These Hopkins Scholarship DO NOT cover cost of travel to and from Newbridge College, nor accommodation and meals for the duration of your stay.

The Gerard Manley Hopkins Scholarship is worth approximately €450. Lucky recipients of an offer of a Gerard Manley Hopkins Scholarship will be notified by email on or before St. Patrick's Day, March 17th.

(The decision of the Judges is FINAL. No discussion can be entered into regarding this Competition.)

2. We can also, at the discretion of the Committee, offer partial Scholarships where students pay only half of the Registration Fee.

Who can apply for this Scholarship?

Anyone who can prove to the Committee that they deserve a scholarship because of their interest in Hopkins and his interests.

How can I apply for a Scholarship to the Hopkins Summer School?
Apply in writing, before March 1st.

What should I send with my application?

A short recommendation from your Professor or from someone in a position to testify to your ability to benefit from this Scholarship
A short statement (under 100 words), by you, outlining why you should be offered a Hopkins Scholarship and why you would like to attend the Gerard Manley Hopkins Summer School. A current EMAIL ADDRESS where we can contact you. This email address will ONLY be used by us in connection with the Scholarship. We promise to respect your privacy and you will receive no other communication from us!
