Matthew Lalor is a classically trained musician from Tara, Co. Meath, Ireland. He has been involved in music, either as a composer or performer, from a young age.

His instrument is the piano, although he is also an accomplished singer,

having studied with, among others, Dr. Veronica Dunne. Matthew graduated from Maynooth University in 1989 with a degree in Music and English and has been professionally involved in music from this time.

As a songwriter and performer he has had considerable success in Ireland with the commercial release of one of his compositions “To Think I've Never Told You” (which featured in the Irish Top 30 Charts). Some of his professional engagements would include performing at the National Concert Hall before an audience with President Mary McAleese, on her first public appearance as the newly elected President of Ireland. Another of his compositions, “Wild December Night” was performed on the prime time Irish television programme,” The Late Late Show.”

More recently he has played for the Russian Ambassador in Dublin as part of an exhibition of Russian art in Ireland (an occasion which led to further professional engagements in embassies both in New York and Vienna, Austria.) Also Matthew has worked extensively in theatre and film both as an actor and composer. In terms of stage acting, he has toured the U.K with his own one show “Byron Unbound” and performed in Irish productions staged by the respected repertory company “Crooked House Theatre” including a lead role in the Irish premiere of “Six Degrees of Separation” by the American playwright John Guare. His screen debut as a leading actor featured at the 2004 Cork film festival in the film “Burnout”, written and directed by George Geraghty).

Matthew has recently recorded an album of his original compositions. This project involved working with the respected U.K music producer, Terry Bradford. The album features the talents of the string arranger Mr. Cliff Hall, whose professional credits include working with Charles Aznavour, Tony Bennett, and Van Morrison.

Mathew Lalor's Album - Critical Acclaim

Also featured are the saxophonist and flautist Chris “snake” Davis (who has played on some of the most successful recordings of the last decade, including George Michael, Eurythmics. Take That, Lisa Stansfield), the cellist Vyvienne Long (Damien Rice) and the hugely talented violinist George Dragoi (who has played with, amongst others, The Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra).

Matthew's album was recorded with a salon orchestra to provide accompaniment and colour, using Matthew's live piano performances from the Artrix Centre in Birmingham, U.K and Die Konzerthaus in Hainburg, Vienna, Austria. The album, entitled "Matthew Lalor", available in HMV and online, has received critical and popular acclaim following a release in the U.K. In terms of a musical genre, his original material would fall into the same classic/alternative/romantic category as Jacques Brel, Michel Legrand, Charles Aznavour, and Scott Walker.
